In late 2018, Pipsters did what most DayZ players only talk about — he built his own server. Not to run a business, not for clout. He wanted to play DayZ the way he believed it was meant to be played: challenging, rewarding, and unforgiving. So he figured it out, put in the time, put in the money, and built something from nothing.
What followed was years of grinding — different maps, community events, ups and downs in population, and a whole lot of late nights keeping things running. By July 2019 the community had a Discord and a real player base. AYOR wasn't just a server anymore. It was a community.
Eventually Pipsters made the call that keeping the servers alive required more than one person. He handed the reins to bigluce to carry it forward — and AYOR kept running. Three servers. Same core. New chapter.

Pipsters
Creator — Original Server Owner — The Reason AYOR Exists
AYOR started with one guy who wanted DayZ done his way. Pipsters built the server from the ground up, figured out the mods, ran the community, and created the foundation that everything here is built on. The time, the money, the vision — that was all him. We don't forget that.
bigluce & Pipsters — Niagara Falls
Pipsters flew over from the UK to visit.
The guy behind the server, in person.
That's what this community means.

The Wilderness is Born
Pipsters launches the first server under the name The Wilderness. One guy, one server, one vision — DayZ the hard way.
2019
Community Takes Root
Discord server launches in July. The player base grows. Events, different maps, and a real community identity start to form.
2019 — Present
Ups, Downs & Expansion
Like any survival server, AYOR had its peaks and valleys. New maps, fun events, population swings — but the core always held.
~Late 2024
The Wilderness Becomes AYOR
Pipsters renames the server to At Your Own Risk — a name that captures exactly what the experience is. No promises. You survive or you don't.
Handoff
bigluce Takes the Wheel
Pipsters steps back. bigluce takes over to keep the servers alive and carry the community forward. Three servers. Still running.
Now
Rebuilding & Growing
New website, new mods, Supporter perks, and a focus on growing the population. AYOR is still here and not going anywhere.
No Hand-Holding
We don't babysit. DayZ is supposed to be hard. We keep it that way. If you die, you figure out why and come back stronger.
Three Experiences
Each server is intentionally different. Different maps, traders, difficulty, and mods. Not mirrors — real choices for how you want to play.
Fair & No Pay-to-Win
Supporter perks are cosmetic only. Your wallet never gives you an edge. Everyone survives or dies on their own merit.
Community First
This started as one person's passion project. It's still that. Every dollar that comes in goes back into keeping the servers alive.
